Video: Manchester United and Real Madrid produce ‘worst penalty shoot-out ever’

By Boluwatife Ezekiel Olaleye

Sixty-five thousand people turned up at the Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara to watch Manchester United and Real Madrid go head-to-head but they will all be able to say ‘I was there to witness the worst penalty shoot-out of all time’.

Yep, 10 penalties were taken and only three were scored. United won the shoot-out 2-1 but, in truth, neither side deserved to win the match because the penalties were that dreadful.

First of all, a recap of what happened during the first 90 minutes.

United took the lead on the stroke of half-time when Jesse Lingard converted following a ridiculous assist from Anthony Martial.

However, a poor challenge by summer signing Victor Lindelof, on as a second-half substitute, allowed Casemiro to equalise from the penalty spot with 20 minutes left to play.

No further goals were scored and the match went straight to penalties. However, Jose Mourinho was seen walking off and it turns out he did the right thing.

These are two of the greatest football clubs on the planet but the state of their penalties in the shoot-out. Woof.

Martial, Scott McTominay and Lindelof all missed for the Red Devils, while Mateo Kovacic, Oscar, Theo Hernandez and Casemiro all missed for Zinedine Zidane’s side.
