DC: Wonder Woman sequel gets release date

DC's Wonder Woman sequel has been confirmed by Warner Bros, just months after the first became the most successful film of the DC Extended Universe.
Gal Gadot is returning as the feminist warrior princess in December 2019, as Warner Bros tries to emulate the box office success of the original film.

It is of little awe that the announcement comes less than two months after the first film was released.
The DC Extended Universe - the film arm of the comic book giant - has been struggling to compete with rival Marvel ever since Christopher Nolan bid farewell to the Dark Knight.

From 2012, nearly all of DC's films have been either commercial flops or critical misfires. Sometimes both.

The latest ensemble, Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice, featured Gadot as Wonder Woman for the first time.

But not even Gadot could save it from a 44% score on Metacritic and a 27% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Wonder Woman, released one year later, made £298m ($389m) worldwide and beat its predecessor at the US box office.

Her next appearance will be in the first instalment of the Justice League, DC's response to Marvel's The Avengers.

The film will reunite her with Henry Cavill's Superman and Ben Affleck's Batman, as well as Game Of Thrones star Jason Momoa as Aquaman and Ezra Miller as The Flash.

Meanwhile, there have been question regarding Affleck's continuity as the caped crusader.
The actor has refuted rumours that he was leaving the franchise - promising to battle on despite poor responses from both critics and fans.

As Superman's solo future remains on hold, Wonder Woman is now DC's last chance at a Marvel-type success.

While Warner has announced the film will hit US theatres on 13 December 2019, it has not yet confirmed whether director Patty Jenkins will remain at the helm.
